A lot of people make the mistake of assuming that a data center is a rather boring thing, something that would be bland and rather unassuming. However, the fact of the matter is that there are a lot of very interesting data centers out there as well, data centers that are both creative and unique in some way and can provide a lot of entertainment if you learn about them. The featured below will help you understand about the most creative data centers that the world has to offer, all of which contribute to the vibrancy of our current data based ecosystem.
Key Highlights:
1. Google Data Center (Hamina, Finland)
In 2009 Google purchased a 60-year-old paper mill and converted it into 86,110-square-feet data center that is primarily powered by wind energy from an onshore win park. The facility also includes a sauna as a pert to its employees.
It is cooled entirely by a high-tech cooling system that pumps seawater from the bay of Finland, leaving almost no carbon footprint.
2. Microsoft Data Center (Dublin, Ireland)
Microsoft’s Dublin mega-data center covers 303,000-square-feet area and uses the natural climate of the island it us located on to cool the hardware inside – eliminating the need for chillers completely.
Microsoft is working with some pioneers in marine energy to leverage technology from submarines in order to create data centers underwater that will service coastal cities.
